Well this is a bit over due....

Bought this around 12 months ago as I needed a family car. Was looking for a wagon, but this came up and was too good to refuse. I purchased it in very original condition, only problem was it had a seized motor. Fortunately it came with another one which I promptly installed, only to find it wouldn't run. After a few checks I found someone had over tightened the tappet clearances, difficult one to find as it did have compression, just way too much overlap :P Hope to have some further updates as I go along.

So what's the plan?

Well sticking to my own guidelines of preferring to stick with same engine type that comes with the car. The process led to the idea of a L26ET. Now I'm torn between just going NA or chasing the dream of making this car as economical as I can.

Where does that leave me??

The cross roads... I need to bore the block regardless so that will add some CC's by boring 1mm oversized, leaving the rest of the block alone with just a standard overhaul. Now I'm wanting to utilise the efficiency of Injection and the doner L20ET lends me it's turbo and Injection manifold. I also have the option of a larger turbo from the L28ET, but because I'm chasing low end efficiency that might not be the best option. I will also be removing the 3 speed Auto in favour of it's 4 speed Auto brother. I would love to find something with a lock up option, but not 100% sure there is the option.

What's been done so far?

The L26 block is all stripped, cleaned and been assessed. The E88 head is stripped and restudded to suit the factory EFI manifold, reliefs drilled in ports for injectors. The factory L20ET manifold is being stripped and cleaned ready for active service. That pretty much brings us up to date with progress.

Injection and turbo for the win, smaller turbo is best ,can't beat that low down pull.

You could have a look at the later autos (R32 Skyline etc), I think the bell housings are interchangeable.

Pretty sure they are as well, E4N71 is lockup converter, just make sure you get its ECU too.

Cool thanks, I have organised to get the 4 speed auto off James, which I'll trial to start with, then keep an eye out for one of those at a later date.
