AE86 into Ute diff.

Post by Adam Herbert »

Hey guys, I managed to find an AE86 centre and I've managed to find a Ute diff to slap onto my 1200 sedan project, but when I try to slide the AE86 centre into my housing doesn't clear by about 25-30 thousands of an inch. The article I've been linked to and everyone I've talked to said it should just drop straight into the housing… any ideas?

Hey, can you post link to what you are doing?

Which exact ae86 diff, and ute housing are the donor parts from?
vr6 idea still siting there, much research in the plumbing before I commit.

It's not actually an AE86 centre, it is a small axel T series from a celica, but I have been told that all small axel T series centres are the same and have the same dimensions, and I know the AE86 had a T series diff in them. The Axel is an H165 Datsun ute diff. I am intending to put an AE86 LSD carrier in the T series when I locate one (hence my calling it an AE86).

um, id assume being told "same size" as being interchangeable for the original ae86 housing, they have very small differences,
as for the h165 housing, searching shows there are 3 types, may also be very small differences.

Can you post a pic of where your having the interference, if it is only the flange then if the interference is only 20 odd thou (.5mm)
then enlarge the diameter of the ID opening by 1mm (0.5mm to the radius)
