right....new update time.

Havent had injectors tested yet, but it's on the to do list.

I got the motor back in the car and all bolted up last weekend, and this weekend I've installed my new nissan intake gasket (unable to get a aftermarket one), with the standard L18E intake.

The factory throttle body on the L18E was tiny and gay.....so I measured up and found that a CA18 throttle body would bolt straight up!, so bought one off trademe, and then found that it does indeed bolt up.....but theres a small section that's bigger than the CA18 throttle, so got Pips dad to weld it up for me, then John machined the weld back to a nice smooth finish. I also swapped the throttle linkage over, so it will still work with the 1600's "rod" type throttle linkage.

I also had the factory hole for the cold start injector welded up at the same time, as I will be running a CA18 ECU, and they dont run a cold start injector.
But as I started to reassemble the manifold, I regretted that decision, as it would have been perfect place (and I even had a fitting that would work) for the CA18 cold start air valve......but now I have to make it work a more cunty way....but it will still work.

Today I cut the linkages, and swapped them over (see pics)

Enjoy the pics

Also, just found some pics that I had thought I had lost of my conversion from CA18 CAS to 6cyl L-seires optical Dizzy.

ok good news!
I have almost finished the wiring (everything except the coil packs, as they have yet to arrive from trademe purchase).
And, I can turn the key on, the fuel pump primes for 5 sec, then turns off (exactly as a CA18 ECU should).
I can then take the modified dizzy out, and turn it over by hand, and I can hear the injectors clicking!

JACKPOT! the modified dizzy works, and is sooooo easy to do. no machining required (only need a press to get the slotted disc out of the CA18 CAS).

So, unlimited power, your good to go with getting that part of your engine sorted now :highfive:

As soon as the coil packs arrive, I'll be able to quickly wire them up, and fire this thing up!

Top work on the dizzy mod Dan.

So recapping, what car did the dizzy and shaft come off? R30 or similar? Or is it any L series 6 cylinder that was factory injected?

not sure what car they came out of, would be best answered by a 6cyl L-series guru.

I think L20, and L28 were the only ones....but not all of them.
has to be OPTICAL type.

Some L20Es & most L20ETs will have the optical ones, they'll have the big dizzy cap that screws on like the one in the pictures above rather than a clip on one. There was a dude with two for sale on Trademe recently, but without the shafts. I've heard that you can modify the dizzy to use a standard shaft, I think you just drill out the splines but it's not a good idea as the reason they went to the spline drive was to decrease the amount of play in the drive, less play = more accurate timing.

You have to be careful because there is a dizzy that takes the big cap but isn't optical, I've got one of those at home. Best bet is to remove the cap and make sure it's optical.

Only L28ETs as far as I know and you won't find many here. Maybe some Jap spec late model Cedrics etc?
