It does, doesn't it? Colour is temporary for now. Look forward to the day I take the old girl off the road for a fresh coat of paint, both inside and out!

How long you had your Monroe's for? And I've posted in your build thread :P

Hey all,

Latest update is front and rear shock absorbers have been replaced/upgraded with KYB's (big thanks to Damon/dattodevil for doing this for me in my absence and in time for Akaroa!). It was suggested at least the rear be done during the old girls last WOF. Doesn't surprise me after seeing how old and dilapidated the original shocks looked...

Damon was kind enough to agree to take the following pictures for me to view while stuck in Australia (I couldn't have waited till I was back in the country):

Hopefully that should make a difference going over bumps/Christchurch roads (especially for any back seat passengers!). Hopefully down the track I can look at getting some KONI adjustables (or something of the like) as a full upgrade package, but for now the cheaper option should suffice :mrgreen:

I'm flying back this Friday evening, so can't wait to pick the Datto up on Saturday and take her for a spin. It's been too long... Am also hoping I can spend some of my spare time sussing out this S13 brake upgrade in time for Akaroa (may swing a PM past Luke and see how he got on in the end). Otherwise, are there any other proven brake upgrade options worth exploring? Keen on any opinions/feedback :D

Big ups to Damon and Hamish for getting me to this Akaroa cruise, the first in my own car! Also to Kitch for many parts, and everyone else for your words, opinions and feedback. See you all next weekend!

Pardon my noob question, but why the oil in the strut tube?
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

If you can't get the brakes up graded Braasy a decent set of pads can make a big difference, competition linings really make your brakes take notice, but used to be rubbish if not up to temperature, I'm sure there are now some great pads on the market that can do both, cold and hot :D

I put some semi decent pads in the front of the Y, and it stops 10x better than my old sedan ever did.

Almost like it has real brakes.....

DJZ is correct. Apparently antifreeze is an alternative too. From what I know, varying shock manufacturers say different things, but those that say to use oil advise not to obviously overfill.

Yeah, caught up with Brocky tonight and advised the same thing. Will look into this week. Obviously and upgrade in brakes would bring more of a piece of mind, however, I may revisit when I decide to upgrade the rear end and move to discs in the back...

Nice! As above, I will look into this. Unsure when the pads were last replaced...so no time like the present :)
