I'd certainly go SR if you're not going 'factory'. L18 would be a step in the wrong direction in my opinion :P

Haha in an ideal world I would have already gone with an SR20 but I'm running low on time and $$. Rebuilding the L20 should be a good starting point for my first engine rebuild. I've got the service manuals so what could go wrong :)

Motor stripped down, tested and painted. Re-assembly underway. Struggling a little bit with getting the timing right but we'll get there.

Very nice. yes Braasy Fresh engines look great.
Easier to get the timing right at this stage than once it is all together, all the best. Do you have instructions on the timing, if you follow them completely it is quite straight forward. I can scan some up if you want. (nut they will be all over the internet).

Hopefully the paint stays on there once it heats up haha. The issue I'm having is primarily with the oil pump. I align the mark on the spindle with the mark on the oil pump and every time I install it the spindle top is at a 3 o'clock / 9 o'clock position instead of the 11:26 position it should be. I can get it to 11:26 if I rotate the spindle but then the two markings don't line up. It's getting frustrating because I've done it before and it lined up perfectly.

A big thanks to Scott for sending me through a few photos of the old girl from when he owned it. Pretty cool seeing all of these photos of how she use to look. Wish it still had the canopy !! I'll be looking for a new left hand side door next year (the red one) if anyone has one in good nick floating around.
