Brocky41's Daily D21's

Post by brocky41 »

So when i decided to leave BNT i knew id have to find a cheap to run daily and a cheap 4WD (farmlife and snowlife)

Ive had this Navara for just over a year now. Its a 1993 TD27 (non hairdryer) Benchy. It had 148KMS on it that dont appear to have been wound.

Before i brought it it had a taillift on the back but the previous ownder kept that, and they farted up the box frame on the back when they cut the taillift off. So no tailgate and the tray was rusted out anyway. Im no good with steel yet, so custom hillbilly tailgate with 4x2 and a nailgun was the go for 6 months.

I also got this D21 Turbo Diesel Terrano for a steal. I only use it when we need to (its got a diesel pump issue and chews the deez). Its the last of the V8 Falcons............. i mean last of the D21 shape before they went to the R50, so it has the wide flares and R50 style interior and mechanical diesel pump (the electronic ones were a bit shit apparently) - plan is to rebuild the diesel pump, do the trans filter, oils etc and keeps it.

The ute rev'd pretty hard at 100kph and was nearly 20kph out on the speedo. This gets tiring when you drive 30kms @ 100kph up a straight road twice a day (i dont mind paying for RUC's but only km for km) so i tidied up some 16" rims i had and threw a set of tyres at them (a little upsizing). I think they may have changed the diff to suit driving the heavy taillift around. Drives nice now, not so many revvs and speedo reads same as the GPS

I then found a D22 Wellside on trade me - came with a tornneo cover, no rust and no taillights.
It was a bolt on and the wiring plugged up too. Its just a little wider and the bodylines are wrong, but hey its a daily and i now have a working tailgate.
Got a good deal at Kent Distributors on the lights brand new.

I can stack hay for days on the back now.

Lately Ive had the clutch replaced, and fitted a swaybar on the front (didnt have one, but got one off a wreck and it has made a huge difference.)
