Looking really good there mate. Its always a nice suprise to not find heaps of extra rust under the paint.

Keep the photos coming (I should update my thread too :oops: )

Every second car is blue go for a classic colour that suits the era. Look at the standard colours and find something similar? Thats only my opinion though, its your car! ( Oh and good choice of wheels by the way, get some fender mirrors too.)

Thanks for the kind words guys, good to see things coming along.

Yeah confused about the blue again haha.

One thing that stumped me about that car is that its colour changes with different pics (apparently it's the Caribbean Blue from the Infiniti G35).

Here's the batch your guys pic came from:
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?p=39826075" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's the magazine article:
http://www.turbomagazine.com/feature...510/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(colours are bright as)

Here's the guys forum post and build thread a while back:
http://zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/174256...owquality.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6053" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(colours vary from pic to pic..)

Here's a pic I saved a while ago:
http://hellameke.com/viewer.php?id=cqs1265353015n.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(quite nice)

Here's what the blue on the G35 looks like:
http://www.tunerzine.com/articles/32/1.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://images03.olx.com/ui/1/98/51/1599751_1.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...Picture017.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Of course the guy could have used a custom mix on his car, but yeah.

Was thinking maybe the minty green factory colour too but hm.

10th November 2010

Well well well haha.

My original painter (the guy who sorted out the blasting and primer) said in January that he couldn't do the project anymore due to a new job. That set me back quite a bit as it took ages to find a good guy. He recommended a few people and they all flaked on me, one even committed to doing it and stopped answering my calls the day before it was to be towed over. So yeah been dicked around quite a bit.

But on the bright side, I called up the original guy a few weeks ago to see what he's up to and he's back in the game. He checked out the car again and then sent photos around to his panel mates, he's really particular about what he paints on so was stoked that he found someone.

Long story short, the car's at the beaters now =D it's going to cost me an arm and a leg all up with paint but at least it'll be a quality job. No going back.

13-14th November 2010

Mohit with the yellow 180b SSS came over to check out the engine for me. He said once I've found the starter motor we can hook it up to the gearbox and give the engine a whirl to see if she's still good. He's awesome! I found the starter so hopefully we can do it next weekend. Decided I'll consider a 13b or sr20det conversion next year, I just want the car done asap for the tail-end of Summer (hoping to be done by mid-Jan). So hopefully it'll be the L18 for now :dance2:

Now I'm just sorting through boxes and boxes of stuff in the shed dad built on the side of the house. Decided I'll tidy up a different part each night and hopefully be done by the time the car's finished (should be 2-3 weeks with the beaters and then another 1-2 for prep and paint). There's bird shit and rust over just about everything so it's going to be fun times :D

Oh and I've posted a thread with parts I need so please check that out here:
http://www.nzdatsun.com/forums/viewtopi ... =10&t=1864" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

P.S:
So stoked to be back into it! Forgot how much hard work it's going to be but it's just going to feel so much sweeter when it's done this way, much better than buying a car that's already been done up. My mate said it'll probably feel better than having a kid haha.

I felt bad posting an update without any pics so went outside just before and took one (showing the mess I've made in Dad's shed, going to be tidying up after work this week):

7 November 2015 (5 years later...)

Hey guys, I moved back from London about 3-4 months ago. Long story short, I saw this come up for sale and bought it right away.

Image

Haha I am more than stoked. I flew down to Christchurch and drove it up to Auckland (haha yeah you heard right! Sorry boys). She made it up from Welly to Auckland on one tank!

Bit of info on the car:
- 1969 510
- Standard L16
- 5 speed gearbox
- Original interior except for WRX seats up front (but it came with the ripped original seats as well)
- Repaint done 3 years ago (edit: thanks for the info DATY12/Kev), body is mint
- Came with a spare gearbox and rebuilt L16 SSS (engine is still down in Chch, anyone know of a good way to send it up?)

Plans:
- Keep the essence of the car as original as possible
- Swap the WRX seats for the originals
- Have the rebuilt SSS engine checked out and drop her in
- Some music would be nice (will do a stealthy install without cutting anything)
- Make sure it has the right 1969 badges (does anyone have pics?)

Things I need to buy (would really appreciate your help):
- 2x original front seats without rips
- Indicator assembly
- Any missing 1969 badges, the red 'D' grille badge in particular

Looks like the club has grown quite a bit up here in the North Island. Catching up with Mohit this week and hopefully the rest of the gang some time soon.

Come say hi if you see me, it's now my daily drive.

Here are some more pics from the trip up.

It's nice to be back :)

As for the old car, don't want to dwell on it but click here for more info.
