Hi Luke,
Just to confuse you even more, as much as I love my side draughts if I was in your position I would be heading down the turbo A series road- bang for buck you simply cannot beat it.
A simple log type exhaust and draw through an SU and you would have more than enough performance to put a huge smile on your face.
Go a few steps further and duplicate what Wal is doing and you would have a little weapon.
Have a quick look on Datsun1200.com at some of the 1200 turbo conversions and the performance available. To try and duplicate that with a normally aspirated engine would cost thousands ( if you could at all ) and it would be horrible to drive on the street and be a hand grenade waiting to go off....
Definitely a good move with the A series though.
Good luck whichever way you swing and look forward to seeing this on the road.
Cheers
Dave

138 flywheel hp- thats an unusual number?
To answer you question yes it is- still require a good head, cam, exhaust etc.
