hey team, just picked up my datsun 1200 today form picton, towed it home and started getting into it. it has a z18et in it and a big diff (not sure what from) and it has been certed in the past but the rego is dead! I have always been a toyota man and this is my first datsun! hopefully it doesn't disappoint! haha

jobs i have to do;
First up is the rust and re-vin, the plan is to get it painted and the rust taken out and go for a re-vin, the interior will also need some attention as is missing a few pieces! the rust in a few places has holes but doesnt look too bad, i have never done any rust work before so it will be a learning curve! I am open to a helping hand an advice from anyone haha!

After re-vin i plan to put some wide oldschool jap wheels on it and lower it a bit!

After that it is motor time! first up, my goal is to be able to beat my mates 4age turbo ae86 that he is building, as i have a strong dislike for 4ages haha! on the plan is to make a top mount turbo manifold (not sure what turbo i want to use yet), rx7 550cc injectors and a decent computer, and a front mount intercooler and BOV. Hopefully this running at around 15pound will move the car along nicely! also anyone that has any advice on that is welcome to share it too!

also if anyone has any idea what the diff is i would be keen to know! because i want to sort an LSD for it! on the cert plate it says ; nissan R/diff
does that just mean rear diff?

here are some photo's! and i will keep this updated! cheers

Mean bro. I was always into toyotas too, untill I got a 1200 sedan with a z18et in it. Good motor although can be a bit tricky to find parts and info for. My Z18 got a bit tired so im halfway through putting a ca18 in mine now. Mine was standard (5psi) and kept up with slightly worked 4ages.

Sweet!
With your rust repairs, they either need to be undetectable to the revin inspector, or you'll need to have a repair cert inspection on them to verify that they're good enough. As a revin shouldn't neccesitate the interior being stripped out, I'd lean towards having them carried out so that the end result couldn't be detected.

oh yeah, i was considering changing to a CA18 but i think Z18ets are cooler because not mayn people know what they are haha,

and for rust repairs to be undetected, i that just visably undected? so they dont run a magnet over the car?

yeah im thinking of getting some longchamps for it, i have some replica 14x9 SSR mk1's which will be my drift or burnout wheels haha

so an update! i have been working on my 1200 everyday for about 2 weeks and im getting some progress! i will take some photo's tomorro and post them up!
what i've done :
fixed the rust along the right sill (the worst rust)
fixed rust at the back right corner or rear guard, made the rear skirt panel a bit straighter haha
fixed rust under both front guards and undersealed under guards too

now im going to move onto the rust on the other side of the car and once i've done that all the rust will be fixed! then its time for paint prep! im thinking i will paint it orange, my mates girlfriends old man has one of the new falcons in a reeeeaaaal lice orange and i was thinking of stealing that colour!
will upload photo's tomorrow!

also have found out my diff is out of a navara! so i'll be trying to source a lock-rite locker for it!
