l16 rattling

Post by jimmyflip »

l16 sounds like a stone in a can. made the mistake of lending it to my brother and he aparently over revved it a little now sounds as if got loose metal rattling around inside it.
just wondering what the likely cause of this is and is it fixable or would it be easier to just buy another motor

might be top end valvetrain issues, or chain???
does it still run mint?
take your rocker cover off and have a look, see if anything is missing or out of place.

Could be a rattling timing chain, have had one of these break one of the chain guides (not the tensioner) this caused the chain to rub on the timing chain cover
just behind the waterpump housing made a hur of a racket too. 8-) (You should be able to see both guides with the valve cover removed )

Goodluck hope your Bro' is paying for repairs ;)
