Mag and tyre replacement sizes ? What have others done

Post by twin120ys »

Just wondering in particular what other 120y b210 owners have done with mag and tyre sizes.

Have tried on a set of 15x8's 0 offset with 195/60/15 and they sit just within standard guards. The front rubs on back of the foot well area (not by much). Will try 205/50/15 and see how I get on

Interested in knowing what have other people done successfully and how much this has changed speedo and revs at 100km

Datsun speedos are Notoriously optimistic on 12" rims, I run 175/70 13s on my 1200 and the speedo is about spot on at 100K I would guess 50 series 15s will be pretty close to accurate. I haven't tried 15s on it though sorry.

I can't comment specifically on a 120y but a 195/50R15 is a crossover replacement for 175/70R13. A 205/50R15 is 2% bigger so it'll bring you rpm down. This would be based on a GPS Speedo though.

195/50r15 seems to be the way to go on 15" - or 185/55r15

If you're wanting the tyres to be legal, and keeping with stock speedo in check your best bet is 195/45r15 Falkens - legal on a 8" rim for cert/wof purposes..

Did you have any issues with rubbing up front? are they 15x7's or 8's you have there?

Hoping 50 wont rub on 8 inch

Help...! WOF failed 195/50/15 15x8... Any advice?

Post by twin120ys »

Hey guys have changed thread name.

Took the y for the re reg and got it back today.

Sheet says

"Check tire size appropriate for rim width"

Failed for drivers seat padding, brake hose perished and the tires.

He said he needs proof they are safe ect for the wheels - vtnz.
195/50/15 15x8.
So we went to tire shop and he wouldnt provide a letter however said hell swap them for 205/50/15. These will rub in the rear guards and also break the 5% rule from OE (wheel size) but come in the guidance.
Any suggestions?

Can you let me know the factory tyre size of the car?

What brand are the tyres you currently have fitted?

I'll see what technical data I can find for you.

Cheers,

I know this is compliance, not cert, but surely they follow similar rules. I don't know, just throwing this out there.

According to LVVTA,
195/50/15 are good for 5.0 - 7.0
Even 205 is too narrow for an 8 inch rim for cert.
http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/infos ... _Guide.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It does, however, say "Additionally, where an LVV Certifier is presented with a wheel & tyre combination which is outside the scope of the tables in this info sheet, LVVTA requires that the guidelines of the tyre manufacturer in question are followed, and verification from the tyre manufacturer is provided..."

Sounds like a last resort and a lot of hassle....

Compliance with standard rims maybe?
