Datsun 1200 Alternators & Starter Motors

Post by DATSN1200 »

Does any one know a retired Auto Electrican that can check out used Alternators and Starter motors in the Lower North Island for a fair cash deal?
I have been quoted a Hourly rate in Wellington of $90.00 an hour and two I have asked dont have bench testing available for Alternators anymore
The price of bushes and brushes @ $10.00 each is fair and apparently they are still available from a Distributor in Seaview Lower Hutt
Please advise me of anyone you may know of

Forums are pretty much dead for this sort of chat.
You’ll have to sign up to Facebook and join the Classic Cars and Datsun pages.

The very best advice that I can give you is to contact Damon ( Datodevil ) and buy new items off him. They may not be genuine Nissan but at the end of the day I know which I would rather have and you may well find that there's not much in it pricewise.
Cheers

Could someone confirm starter motors are 9 tooth for Datsun 1200 A12 series 1971 /1972 ?
Some are 8 tooth so will both work without damaging flywheel ?

I have found out from local Auto Electrician in Lower Hutt that 8 & 9 tooth starter motors interchange
After waiting from club members with no response I found an old school tradesman who new the answers.
He also fully rebuilt both Starter motors and Alternators for Datsun 1200 A12 and had brand new parts in stock
He has the equipment to bench test which three other companies I asked could not perform inhouse
Guess its called patience and time to locate people today when things are just canned

Good outcome in the end Joseph. Sorry there was no response from club members in your area, as Ginge said, FaceBook is the new Forum, tech info and build threads still live here, but updates are getting further apart. Just a sign of the times I guess.
Hope you are well, pleased yoiur log in is working again.

I went to go get my alternator reconditioned last week Joseph. The guy said between $200-$300 would be the rough cost. He then called me back and said he could supply a brand new Hitachi alternator for $265 inc. Even better the local supplier in Lower Hutt had them in stock so I had my brand new unit an hour later.
