Is he looking at the number stamped on the firewall behind the motor or the metal tag on the left hand side of the bay? Do the two match? What do they both say?

I think it had a personalised plate at some stage.

the number registered to the plates is different to that on the chassis/firewall, the number on that tag matches the number for the plates

its really hard to read but the car is registered as a 1978 fairlady 280z chassis number 000512 but the cars firewall has 19482(?) on it, i dont know the last number as its been drilled out for the throttle linkage

Maybe you should ask that guy on the 280ZX facebook page that used to own it? Or I can ask Shelvin what he knows?

What's the start of the chassis number? HGS130 or GS130?

Looking at the mileage history on carjam makes me think the plates were swapped some time in 2013.
