S13 front brake upgrade for datsun B110/B210's.

Post by Bartman »

okay kiddies, here goes.
first of all, you have to remove the standard hub and rotor from the stub axle. Then remove the brake disc from the hub. It's held on by four bolts. It's spigoted on pretty tight. Don't be tempted to beat it with a hammer. I fucked one on my hubs by doing this. (Damaged the rear bearing seal journal)
Then you need to turn a bit off the outside diameter of the hub in a lathe, (Or grind it off if you can't find someone to turn it for you) so that the S13 rotor will slip over the hub.

Hub before being turned down.

After having the disc removed, and being turned down to take the S13 rotor.

Then you need to swap over your left and right struts, so that the eyes which the calipers bolt to, are facing towards the front of the car. next bolt the caliper adapter plate to the stub axle, with the narrow end of the adapter pointing downwards.

Like so.

notice in this picture, how the eye at the base of the strut, protrudes a tiny amount above the caliper adapter plate?

Well, this fouls on the body of the caliper, near the piston. See the rusty bit in this pic,

When the caliper is together, that wee bit fouls on that eye.

Like so.

You could probably grind a whisker off that eye, to make it clear. But I chose to remove the material from the caliper instead.
Before,

and after,

It really is bugger all material to remove. I showed the post grinding caliper to Wayne Martin, (Local LVVT Certification engineer, hot rodder, and all round GC) and he said he had no problems with such a small amount of material being taken off.

This pic is a little fuzzy, but you can see now how well it clears.

The rest is pretty easy really, I'll take some more snaps when I put mine back together. i have an assembled strut that I'm going to show Wayne Martin, he may be interested in doing this to his sons 120y Coupe.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

yeah, I have a few sets. Now that all the unforseen bugs have been ironed out, it shouldn't be too hard to whip up some more.

You wouldnt by chance have any brackets left, also by shaving that lip off would that fix the problem that valvebounce posted on http://ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f= ... f&start=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
