Just a quick update. The car is back from the sand blasters and is being cleaned up ready for primer, so i went in to have a look. The other (read:cheap) way i have heard people doing it is just to lock the dizzy, I.E. no advance and just set your static timing to whatever gives you the most horsepower without detonation.

Yeah, there was a thing in the paper about it, they called it a freak accident, so they aren't looking for anyone to blame.
The guy was was an experienced rider and was wearing all his safety gear properly etc, aparently he just took the corner to fast.
